Having been selected for the highly competitive NASA STEM Enhancement in Earth Science (SEES) Internship Program, junior Lily Shelton will soon begin her work as part of a nationally recognized STEM research experience hosted by the University of Texas Center for Space Research in partnership with NASA.

The prestigious SEES program receives thousands of applications each year from students across the country. This year, the Center for Space Research received more than 3,000 applications, with judges selecting only the top 7% for both virtual and onsite experiences based on grades, essays, recommendation letters, and personal videos. According to the judges, Lily's achievements, dedication, and potential truly set her apart.

As part of this internship, Lily has been assigned to the "Human Health Analog: Psychological and Physiological Deficit Countermeasures in Human Spaceflight" research team. Working closely with NASA experts and her peers, Lily will engage with scientists and engineers at the forefront of their fields as she explores what it takes to operate in extreme environments such as space.

Throughout her time in the program, Lily will hear from various speakers and participate in opportunities that provide deeper insight into what it takes to work in these environments, with the ultimate goal of developing new research ideas that make a meaningful difference in the future of human spaceflight.
