The college and career counseling staff at Westminster have selected the following resources to help your student get started with the college planning and application process:

Get in 2 College Handbook

ThisĀ handbook (pdf, 362.19KB) offers practical information about what colleges look for in prospective students and how your student can best highlight his or her unique talents.

CollegeView

The CollegeView workstation located in Westminster's Counseling Center allows students and parents to tap into a powerful college database. The database provides information on more than 3,600 two- and four-year colleges in the U.S. and Canada. Students select 12 criteria to find the college that is right for them. The database details each college's student body, student life, athletics, special services, admission information (including average SAT and ACT scores, financial information and transfer and foreign student information.

  • Multimedia presentations provide a virtual campus tour of hundreds of colleges.

  • AppZap lets students complete a custom application that can be electronically submitted to participating colleges.

  • The Student Services feature offers a wealth of information on researching, applying for and receiving financial aid. It also includes a multimedia presentation on the financial aid process, a calendar of admission and financial aid events and deadlines and a glossary of terms.

  • You may also access all this information from your home computer at www.collegeview.com Be sure to register as a Westminster student at this site, because our yearly site license agreement with College View allows you to experience more through the website as a registered user.

CollegeView's Scholarship Edition

This database keeps allows students to comprehensively search for scholarships and grants for which they may wish to apply. It provides instant access to more than 3,000 sources of money for college and it's the only source for college-specific scholarships.

  • It is easy to customize scholarship searches to fit a student's background, hobbies, interests, and more.
  • Students can browse sources of public and private awards using various categories.
Financial Aid
  • FastWEB is a free scholarship search engine that leads you through a number of questions and compares your answers to requirements for specific scholarships.
  • The Financial Aid Information Page provides links to many sources of information about financial aid and scholarship scams. Includes a calculator.
  • FAFSA Express - Download a copy of the U.S. Department of Education's FAFSA form. Includes Title IV codes.
  • FAFSA on the Web allows students to complete the FAFSA form online (be prepared to fill it out completely).
  • The Sallie Mae Loan Information site provides loan calculations and more.
  • The Financial Aid Calculator offers convenient worksheets to help families identify alternative ways to finance college costs and to determine the EFC amount (Expected Family Contribution).
Campus Tours

Campus Tours provides virtual tours and photos of many colleges and universities throughout the country.

Testing Information
  • ACT - Register online, send scores to colleges, test preparation, and ACT test date calendar are available here.
  • SAT/AP Information - Register online for the SAT, send scores to colleges, get valuable Advanced Placement information, test preparation and information about the PSAT.
