Honors Track will read two books:
- The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba
- The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Students in Learning Center English 9 should read at least one book this summer prior to the beginning of the school year. The book should be at the student’s instructional reading level – nothing too easy or too challenging. Students should choose a book they have not read before. The books can be purchased or borrowed from your local library.
The first writing assignment will be a review of the book they chose to read over the summer, so they will need to bring their book with them during the first week of school.
They DO NOT need to read The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba (summer reading for 9th grade) during the summer. They will, however, read this book later in the semester, so they will still need to purchase it.
Students who receive Learning Center services but are in regular English classes will follow the regular program for summer reading.
If you need suggestions for books to choose, you may want to refer to the Middle School Reading List (pdf, 72.27KB).
