Duffy Clears the Sky

Westminster Christian Academy’s Senior Sarah Duffy played her best match of the young season Tuesday when she not only beat her teammate Junior Kristin Kilpatrick, who placed 7th in the State tournament last season, but also downed Senior Sky Seo from MICDS. Sky placed 2nd in last years State Golf Championships. Kilpatrick and Seo look to better themselves at this year’s tournament but Duffy might have something to say before they get there. Kilpatrick, in her first match of the season after an illness that caused her to miss the first two matches, had carded a round of 45. Sky looked to be the match medalist with a score of 42 also playing in the first group. Before the match Coach Steve Bradley had asked Duffy to play in the second group to offer some experience for that foursome that has some less seasoned golfers. When that groups scores were collected near the ninth hole Bradley thought he heard something he really liked. Duffy reading off the scores called her score as a 40 bringing an instant smile to her coach. Duffy had just medaled in her third straight match and had beaten two of the finest golfers in the State. “Duffy has worked hard over the summer and during the season and it shows,” Bradley said. “She got game,” he added.

Sarah was the match medalist with steady and confident play on every hole. Jammie Zimmer added flashes of greatness while Hillary Franz paced her self into scoring position. Margaret Moore playing in her first ever varsity match also controlled her nerves and played steady as the final score for Westminster. Maggie Mauze and Katharine Hickman each played a good round to balance the Westminster Attack. The Cats play again tonight against Clayton. Get better Kristin!
