Evan Sherman wins Cross Country Medal for 13th place finish
First-Time Runners Conquer Challenging Cross Country Course The Boy's Cross Country Team competed in their first meet on Saturday, September 3rd at the daunting Jefferson Barracks course. The Lutheran South Invitational, a traditional opening meet for many strong teams, attracted more than 75 varsity runners from teams across the area to the wooded, hilly 3.1 mile (5k) course. The Wildcat boys finished 7th in the team competition. Junior Evan Sherman led the boy's varsity with a personal course best time of 18:49 - good for a medal and 13th place. Senior captain Josh Holzhousen had a strong time of 21:42. First-time runners (and full time soccer players) Andrew Hoekzema and Brendan Zee-Cheng finished with times of 21:55 and 22:54 respectively. Cross-country veterans Tom Randolph, Joe Nothum, and Mike Beck finished near each other (and Brendan Zee-Cheng) with times of 22:27, 22:49 and 22:50. In the Junior Varsity race, another pair of first-time runners - Barton Hesterberg and Hunter Carruthers -started their cross country careers by finishing the difficult JB course. Just the first, no doubt, of a series of courses to conquer for these two young runners. The next Cross Country meet is at MICDS on Saturday, September 10th at 8:00am - followed by a 4:00pm meet on Friday the 16th at Principia.
