Dominating Victory at Priory

They made history. Tuesday afternoon, the Wildcats Varsity Tennis Team defeated Priory for the first time ever. And it was convincing: 6-1. Singles winners were David Conley, Andy DeRousse, and Andy Wiele. Doubles winners were Colin McAfee/Michael Alexander, Joe Hunsicker/Quinn Zielonko, and Jeff Glidewell/Taylor Hiemenz.

Conley Helps Wildcats Avoid Shut Out

The Varsity lost yesterday to Clayton, 6-1. David Conley had the only win, and what a win it was. He was focused, consistent, and strong throughout. If you see David today, tell him: David, I hear youre a good tennis player. Itll be an understatement. Today, the boys have a HOME match against Ladue. Come on out and enjoy the sunshine and the high quality tennis at 3:45 today.

Weekend Warriors

Last year, the tennis team narrowly lost to Ladue 3-4. But during their recent meeting Friday, Westminster defeated them 7-0. That's right: Our formidable opponent got nothing. Zip. Nada. The big goose-egg. A shut-out. A skunk. David Conley, Jack Reed, Andy Wiele, and Andy DeRousse all had convincing singles wins. The following doubles teams also contributed wins: Mike Alexander/Colin McAfee, Quinn Zielonko/Joe Hunsicker, and Jeff Glidewell/Taylor Hiemenz. Then this weekend, while you were working on your suntan, the boys played and soundly defeated Duchesne 8-1. Quinn Zielonko and Joe Hunsicker made their singles debuts and both won in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. Michael Polovich also pulled in his first singles Varsity win at the number 5 spot.

Wildcats Partial to Bagels

It was all bagels and one breadstick for the boys Varsity tennis team yesterday, who played and defeated JFK 7-0. Every set score for every Westminster player was 6-0 6-0 (hence the bagels), except on one court who one 6-0, 6-1. For those of you unfamiliar with the sport, that my friends, is domination. Winners included David Conley, Andy DeRousse, Jack Reed, and Andy Wiele in singles the doubles teams of Mike Alexander/Colin McAfee, Quinn Zielonko/Joe Hunsicker, and Jeff Glidewell/Taylor Hiemez also provided victories. Great work fellows.

WCA Upends PNHS

From Olive, we went right onto Fee Fee and we turned right into Parkway North High School and then we went right to victory. The varsity boys tennis team is fantastic. Right? Yep. They won 6-1. Andy DeRousse, Andy Wiele and Joe Hunsicker all won their singles matches. The doubles teams of Colin McAfee/Mike Alexander, Quinn Zielonko/Sam Hotchkiss, and Jeff Glidewell/Taylor Hiemenz all gave wins as well. The Wildcats have home matches all this week (today through Thursday). If you can only make one of these matches, come out on Wednesday, as the Wildcats take on last years state championsJohn Burroughs.

They Really Are Good Guys

It might seem like youre reading the same announcement over and over again, but the story remains the same: Westminster Boys Tennis dominated again. This time, the opposition came from Whitfield, but the Cats were too strong, winning 7-0, in another impressive performance. Andy DeRousse played a determined and smart match, at the number one spot It only took David Conley 35 minutes to secure his victory at number 2. Jack Reed employed an effective strategy to win the 3 spot, and Andy Wiele was just too powerful at 4. Colin McAfee and Mike Alexander went the distance to win in 3 sets while Joe Hunsicker and Quinn Zielonko and Taylor Hiemenz and Jeff Glidewell won convincingly in straight sets. Todays the day Come out and watch the Wildcats take on the defending state champions, John Burroughs, after school. The match should start just before 4:00 PM.

Tough Match for Wildcats

The Boys Wildcat Tennis team lost to Vianney yesterday, 4-3. Andy Wiele won at the #1 singles spot, and Jeff Glidewell won at #4. In his Varsity debut, Brian Keffer played #3 singles and gained a hard fought victory for the team.

Wildcats Take on SLUH

The Wildcats took on a top ranked Class II team, in preparation for their own Class I district tournament to be held next week. The post-match cheer said it all yesterday: Thanks Keffer. Thanks Quinn. Loss Loss Loss Loss Loss Loss WIN! Thats right, the tennis team lost 6-1 yesterday, and the doubles team of Quinn Zielonko and Brian Keffer pulled in the only win against St. Louis University High School. It was Brians Varsity doubles debut, so he got to wear the silky bright blue uniform. Kudos.

Racket Masters Ace Flyers

It was the first time the Wildcats had ever faced tennis powerhouse Chaminade. The battle was intense, and at the end of the day, Westminster won 4-3. The following players contributed wins: Andy DeRousse (who clawed his way back into the second set, winning in a tie-breaker), Jack Reed (who was dominate from the start), Taylor Hiemenz and Jeff Glidewell (after dropping the middle set, they bounced back promptly to win the 3rd), Brian Keffer and Quinn Zielonko (who had a rocky start but came on strong in sets 2 and 3). Today, the Wildcats take on MICDS (away) at 4:00 PM. Its the last regular season match of the year.

These Cats Are For Real!

The MICDS tennis team turned their hats sideways (so that the bills became fins) creating makeshift rally caps, hoping their team could rally back to win. But at the end of the day, the Wildcats held on to their lead and beat their strong opponent 4-3. Jack Reed and Andy Wiele had convincing singles wins at #3 and #4. Jeff Glidewell and Taylor Hiemenz gave their strongest doubles performance of the year at #3 doubles. However, it came down to David Conley. He played aggressive, smart, consistent, excellent tennis winning the second set in a tie-breaker and giving the team the overall winning score. Special thanks go out to Mr. Edema who has proved himself a loyal/faithful tennis fan all year we understand its hard to be a BLUE CREW when youre only one guy, but you do a great job.

Tennis Team Advances to Sectionals

We give thanks for our trials which give us new opportunities and perseverence. We gave thanks for our gifts because they are not our own. We give thanks to our Lord because we are not our own. The boys tennis team won their district yesterday and will now have the opportunity to compete in the Sectional Tournament to be held next Saturday - through Sectional play, the team has the opportunity to advance to State tournament. Already qualifying for the state individual tournament are David Conley and the doubles team of Jack Reed/Andy Wiele. Reed and Wiele won the entire doubles district tournament, taking out the #1 seed yesterday in straight sets: 7-5, 6-3. David Conley is in the finals of districts today, playing against the #1 seed in the tournament. Also playing today for third place singles in districts is Andy DeRousse. Joe Hunsicker and Mike Alexander finished third in the district as a doubles team yesterday as. Extend to all the above players a congratulations when you see them today.

Tough Cats Advance in Tough Tournament

In preparing for Sectionals, the tennis team is part of an MICDS tournament this week. In school history, the team has never made it past the first day of tournament play; but yesterday, the Wildcats beat Hazelwood West and then went on to beat Ladue, advancing to the second day of the tournament. The top schools in St. Louis are all there, and currently, Westminster is one of the top four left in the tournament. Play resumes at MICDS today as the Cats take on SLUH in semi-final action.

The Heat is On, Cats Move On

Mr. Boesch was there for the first round to see the Wildcats Tennis Team defeat Kirksville 5-0 in sectional play. In the next round of play, Priory turned on the heat and tried to take from the Wildcats the victory. But at the end of the day, our boys played fantastic tennis. Even though Joe Hunsicker found himself down 0-3 in the third set, he focused and came through, winning a pivotal match. If you see any of the following boys, give them a huge congratulations (and if youre into hugging, do that too) because they are part of a Final Four State Team: David Conley, Jack Reed, Andy DeRousse, Andy Wiele, Joe Hunsicker, Quinn Zielonko, Colin McAfee, Mike Alexander, Taylor Hiemenz and Jeff Glidewell. What a season. This Wednesday, the team travels to Springfield to compete as a team trying to secure the first ever team championship for WCA.

Varsity Boys Go to State

The Boys Varsity Tennis team made a final four appearance and finished fourth overall in the Class I State Tournament.
