One Great Surprise
Districts went as expected - our doubles teams (Schlafly/Bergman & Ottsen/Deves) both arrived in the semi-finals where they fell to opponents from Viz. Sarah Betz played a great first round but lost to the #2 seed, a strong player from Whitfield. But the surprise of the tournament came from Esther McGowan. Esther won her first round but then played an opponent from Viz whom she had decisively lost to just last week. But in district play, Esther came out firing with smart variety - with dropshots, lobs, and strong groundstrokes, she secured the first set. Things were close in the 2nd and 3rd, but Esther was not able to pull out the match.
3 Wins for Wildcats
The girls took down Lutheran South (9-0), Ursuline (7-0), and Incarnate Word (5-2) for an impressive run just prior to beginning post season action.
Columbia and Post Season Play
The Wildcats traveled to Columbia to play one of the best teams in the state (Rockbridge) - Madaline Ross was able to pick up an impressive win against her opponent. The post season began Tuesday this week with a nice 5-2 win over Principia. Strong singles victories came from Maddie Ottsen (#3), Madi Deves (#4), Esther McGowan (#5), and Sarah Betz (#6). We got a convincing doubles win (at #3) from Emily Heyl and Sarah Betz to clinch the match.
Fishing Derby Results
The girls tennis team had a fishing derby. The results are as follows:
Shutout Again
We got skunked again (this time by St. Joe's). That said, Madaline Ross played a wonderfully competitive match at #5 singles. And on the bright side: tomorrow we go fishing.
