Spring 2013 Season
JV win over Burroughs in PKs.
The Wildcats traveled to Burroughs for the semi finals of the Metro JV tournament. Having strategized on the drive over, the cats were ready to take on the Bombers. Less than two weeks ago, Burroughs had soundly beaten the Wildcats. WCA came out working the ball confidently, with Chase Seiller tightly marking Burroughs' top player. Sam Dunne controlled the defense with some great support from Drew Straub and Brendan Sabadell. A foul early on led to the first goal. Theo Muschany took a free kick inside our own half on to see the ball get past the last defender and fall to the feet of Brendan Yeager. Yeags cooly buried the shot to give the cats an early 1 - 0 lead. Both teams battled in the midfield and tried to keep control of the ball. Burroughs tried to pressure the cats by dumping ball after ball over the back four but the cats were up to the challenge. Late in the half, a mixup on a through ball led some confusion with Theo and Sam. Theo came out to clear the ball, but it deflected off the Burroughs player and into the WCA net to tie things up.
The second half had Burroughs playing with the wind. This actually hurt their attack because they constantly tried to put balls over our backs, but the wind kept carrying it to Ben Evans. Both teams exchanged chances, with Brendan Yeager and Andrew George creating some long range shots. Burroughs was a bit more dangerous with several corners, and one diving save from Ben Evans. Dominic cleared the ball off the goal line to keep things tied up. Late in the game, Ben Evans came up with a diving save on a breakaway to save the day for the Wildcats. The game ended 1 -1. PKS followed immediately. The first shooter for Burroughs shot high and wide, the second shooter was stopped on a diving save. Their third shot was good, and their fourth was stopped again by Ben Evans. David Williams, Brendan Yeager, Ben Evans, and Tristan Becker made all their shots for the win.
The finals for the Metro tournament are today - Wednesday 10/26 at 4 pm at WCA.
