Spring 2013 Season
Spped of the Greyhounds was too much for the Cats.
JV soccer came out like it was a Monday and struggled against the Clayton Greyhounds. The Greyhound name was the perfect name for competition since they seemed to be faster than WCA at every position. The team struggled to get a foothold in the game and some excellent goaltending by Theo and strong defending by our back four kept the game close. Clayton took the early lead off a poorly struck goal kick that was not dealt with by the Cats defense or midfield. The Clayton striker had the ball come on the ground right to his feet and he struck it one time and scored a miracle goal from 35 yards out. This was the second game in a row, the Cats had given up a goal off of a Goalkick and today it would prove to be too much.
David Williams had several nice attempts from distance and one that hit just outside the corner post to almost tie the game up. WCA struggled with possession on the artificial turf, and Clayton was very organized all over the field. Few opportunities presented themselves. Reed Schick provided a nice spark with some long runs down the left wing, but was unable to get his crosses into the danger zone. With the speed of Clayton, the Cats were unable to put much together offensively, but they battled throughout the whole game and gave themselves a chance. As time became a factor, the team was opened up to a few more chances from Clayton, but Big Ben Evans was there to shut the door on the Clayton Offense. The team lost 1 - 0 and looks to rebound today 9/27 versus Affton at home.
