Spring 2013 Season

We came. We froze. We conquered.

We came…we froze…we won!!! The Westminster Christian Academy Boy’s Soccer team battled the cold, a slippery field, “twiddle-dee” & “twiddle-dum,” and a surprisingly tough Burrough’s squad Tuesday afternoon but came away with a solid 3-0 victory. The first 40 minutes witnessed a determined Bomber defensive effort which allowed very few solid chances for the Cat attack. Jake Grimes, Connor Hunsicker, Jake Appelbaum and Matt Hudnut were unable to find the net in the first 25 minutes as shots either “split the uprights”, or sailed wide left or right. At the 25 minute mark, the Bombers had their first scoring effort but a solid save by Tim Reed kept the Burrough’s squad from taking an early lead. Four minutes later, the Cat’s countered but C Hunsicker’s blast from the 18 yard line sailed just left of the Bomber net. Two minutes later, Appelbaum sliced his way down the left side, slapped a sharp cross to Anthony Pritchett at the top of the box. Pritchett cleanly played it off his chest and then deftly slid a delicate pass to C Hunsicker whose quick redirection from just inside the top right of the box was easily captured by a sprawling Bomber keep. The final 8 minutes of the half witnessed a very aggressive style of play by both sides which at times got out of hand due mostly to questionable calls (and non-calls) by the Lewis Carroll’s anthropomorphic twins. The second half opened with the Cats clearly controlling play in the Bomber end but could not penetrate a tough Bomber defensive unit the 50 minute mark when C Hunsicker redirected a feed from Grimes into the lower left of the Bomber net. For the next 10 minutes, Burrough’s young squad attempted to penetrate the Cat zone but strong play by Tim Miller, Matt Schwartz, Jack Dohr and Curtis Stump kept any challenges far from the Cat net. At the 63 minute mark, the Cats notched their second goal when tri-captains Hudnut, Grimes and C Hunsicker combined on a near perfect throw-in…to head flick pass…to a clean header just passed the outstretched hands of the keeper and into the top middle of the net. The tri-captains continued their goal scoring magic 8 minutes later when Hudnut took control of an errant pass at midfield, fed a streaking Grimes down the left side who, in turn, fired a perfectly placed cross to a sliding C Hunsicker at the far post which Hunsicker brilliantly redirected past a diving Bomber keep. Final score: WCA 3…Burroughs 0 Scoring summary:
48:00 WCA Hunsicker from Grimes 63:00 WCA Hunsicker from Grimes & Hudnut 71:00 WCA Hunsicker from Grimes & Hudnut
