Wildcats Win

Playing their first home game of the year, the Westminster Wildcats got on track by pitching a shut-out against St. Mary's 13-0. The defense played with intensity throughout the game, creating several turnovers and forcing St. Mary's into offensive sets that they do not like to run. Offensively, the Cats continue to impress between the 20s, but they have not gotten over the proverbial hump in the Red Zone. Improvement was made this week as they were able to score two times in the second quarter. Moving the ball up and down the field as they have done in weeks past, the offense managed to get the pigskin over the goal line. The first touchdown came when Rory Hennings scampered in for a 5 yard run behind solid blocking from the offensive line. The second came just six minutes later when Zack Dorton connected with John Bergman for a 3 yard completion in the end zone. With each passing week, the young squad continues to make strides toward becoming a solid football team. Offensively, Rory Hennings led the team with 102 rushing yards and one score, while Zach Dorton was 23/36 203 yards with 1 TD and no interceptions. Both John Bergmen and Alex Caciarelli proved viable targets, combining for 17 catches totaling 187 yards. Defensively, many players stepped up to make key plays. Alex Cacciarelli led the team with 5.5 total tackles. Sophomore Ryan Allee made the most of his minutes with 2 sacks and 2 tackles for a loss, as Ted Seibenman also thrived starting his first game at safety with 2 passes breakups. The Westminster Wildcats return to action Friday night on the road against Borgia.

Many Chances Fall Short

The Wildcats fell 30-6 to the Lutheran North Crusaders on Saturday afternoon. The turning point of the game came mid-way through the 2nd quarter. Leading 6-0 at the time, the Wildcats had the ball inside Lutheran North's 5 yard line. After surrendering the ball on downs, Westminster saw the Crusaders rip off a long touch down run to take a 7-6 halftime lead. The second half proved to follow the same pattern, as the Wildcats could not capitalize on long drives to get the ball in the end zone, only to watch as the Crusaders used their speed to break off some long touchdown runs. The guys fought hard, never giving up, which is a reflection of their character and competitive spirit. They look to get on track this Saturday afternoon in their first home game against St. Mary's. Come out and support your team.
