Varsity Hockey Winning Streak at 5
The Varsity Hockey team extended their winning streak to five games with an impressive 7-1 rout of the Clayton Greyhounds Friday night (Jan 25) in Chesterfield. Things started off shaky for the Cats when Clayton took a 1-0 lead just 20 seconds into the game. However this would prove to be Clayton’s only goal. Later in the 1st period while playing a man short Jimmy Munson and Daniel Kaufman broke in to the Greyhound zone on a 2-1. The lone defender let Jimmy skate in alone while he tried to cover Daniel, bad move, game tied at 1. Early in the 2nd period Jimmy won a face off in the Clayton zone skated towards the net for a few strides before ripping one over the goalies shoulder for a 2-1 lead. Daniel Kim put home a rebound after 2 big saves to give Westminster a 3-1 lead. As the home crowd grew in size and noise the Cats continued their relentless attack on Clayton. Daniel Kaufman fed a beautiful pass to freshman Matt Longworth who quickly put the puck in the back of the net for a 4-1 lead. Daniel Kim capped off the 2nd period scoring with a blast that the goalie at first stopped but the momentum of the puck kept it going for a 5-1 lead. The rout continued in the third with goals from Jimmy Munson and Daniel Kaufman. The Wildcat defense was solid only allowing 18 shots against winning goalkeeper Taylor Smallwood. Tim Applebaum and Vinny Cascella picked up two assists and Jimmy Munson, Daniel Kaufman, Andrew Everett and goalie Taylor Smallwood chipped in with one assist each. Next up for the red hot Wildcats is Pattonville at 7PM in North County on Saturday the 26th.
