Rams Too Much for Cats

Tonight’s game (Jan. 5th) against the MICDS Rams was a tough one to swallow after last night’s easy win over Lutheran South. The Rams were truly on top of their game tonight, while the Wildcats were fair-to-middling at best. From the moment that black biscuit hit the ice, the Rams were in control. They fired shot after shot. Goalie Taylor Smallwood was scrambling. The first Rams goal was scored after just one minute………the puck had never left the Wildcat zone. Three more MICDS scores followed before the buzzer mercifully rang and the Wildcats had a chance to get their thoughts in line. The Cats came off the bench to start the 2nd with a new resolve. Munson first followed thru with a score early on. Bill Franz followed shortly with a breakaway, 1-on-1 with the goalie. He scored a neat top-shelf-glove-sider. Munson came thru again with a slap-shot from the red circle. The puck produced that satisfying billowing of the net as it struck high in the corner. NOW the Rams were getting worried. They’d taken their breather and were back in business. They scored next, but the Wildcat back-breaker came when the Rams scored 3 more goals in 2 minutes at the end of the 2nd - beginning of the 3rd, two on the power play! Unable to rally, the Cats managed 1 more goal amidst the Rams’ barrage. Kaufman managed a rebound shot on the power play. Final score tonight - 10 – 4, Rams. Assists tonight: 1 each for Kim, Seth Lillenberg, Munson & O'Brien. Despite the high score, goalie Taylor Smallwood had a respectable game with 31 saves. Wildcat shots - 28.
