Lancers No Match for Cats

Tonight’s game (Jan. 4th) against the Lutheran South Lancers was clearly dominated by the Wildcats. Apparently the holiday break was good medicine for the Cats, as they came out roaring tonight. Jimmy Munson started the scoring early on with a nice top-shelf. Seth Lillenberg was next to score with a classic “pickin’ up the trash” when the goalie was down after Daniel Kaufman had already fired twice. Thirty seconds later, Kaufman avoided the drama of a penalty shot by simply scoring top shelf as he was falling down while he was at the same time nearly performing the Chinese splits as he was being hooked thru the legs from behind. The kid’s got some focus and skill……and NO fear! Nathan Smallwood ended the first period scoring with a carry from one end of the ice to the other. He stopped to take the shot, which hit the defenseman’s stick blade, but went in anyway. The second period proved to be pretty “event-less”. The Lancers managed one score, but that was it. The Cats were saving their energy for the third, where they showed everyone what they were made of. A minute into the period, Munson & Franz teamed up for the score - Munson made the pass across the front of the net and Franz one-timed it in with flair. Munson followed shortly by managing an incredible wrist shot to mid-net when he was surrounded by defenders. Bill Franz really showed his stuff on the next score. He made one of those impossible angle shots from beside the net stick side. The shot went up BEHIND the goalie and barely caught the edge of the net glove side. Franz was on top of his game tonight, much to the Lancers’ chagrin, I’m sure. The last goal of the game was a Munson classic complete with weaving and spinning from one end of the ice to the other, ending in just the perfect shot. Rack up a hat-trick for Munson. Final score - 8 – 2, Wildcats. Assists tonight: Munson, Kaufman, & Burgess - 2 each. 1 each for Hughes, Franz, Kim, O'Brien, and both Smallwoods. WCA shots - 34, Saves - 27 Nice game, Cats!!!
