Lancers Can't Compete with Cats Tonight

The Cats knew from the start tonight (Nov. 26th) that the Lutheran South Lancers should be an easy team to beat. Therefore, it stung when the Lancers were the first to score nearly an entire period into the game! The Wildcats apparently needed that sting to get their jets going. The Lancers were playing a highly defensive game in an attempt to shut down heavy-duty scorers Jim Munson and Daniel Kaufman, but Kaufman blew by the defense and had no one but the goalie to answer to when he put in WCA goal number one to get the Wildcat engine rumbling. The next goal came in the middle of the 2nd on a WCA power play. Daniel Kim made the D-to-D pass to freshman Nathan Smallwood, who nailed the top left corner of the net with a nice wrist shot from just inside the blue line. No shutting off the Wildcat engine now! Daniel Kim scored next from the blue line. The puck slid into the right corner of the net and made a sweet trip around the bottom of the rail to the left corner. A real ringer. Kim was hot tonight, neatly scoring the next goal from a Daniel Kaufman pass in front of the net. Kaufman racked up a hat trick with the Wildcat game-opener, a nice back-handed goal, and a nice deeker. He also assisted Kim's two goals. Bill Franz and Seth Lillenberg each contributed an assist to the score sheet. Goaltender Taylor Smallwood stopped 19. Nice! Final score: 6 - 1, Wildcats.
